Windows Only Recognizes 128GB HDD

IT-General

Today when installing 3 units of 200GB HDD in a Windows 2000 PC, I observed that Windows only recognizes 128GB only. After googling for a while, I realized that it currently uses 28-bit LBA instead of 48-bit; which makes it recognizes only 128GB.

I double checked the BIOS. Since I am using Intel Desktop Boards D945GNT, I downloaded the latest BIOS update from Intel website and updated the BIOS. But the problem still persists, Windows only recognizes 128GB only.

Next, I enabled 48-bit LBA Support, by creating a EnableBigLba registry value to 0x1 in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Atapi\Parameters\ and restarted the system. Voila, it works! Windows recognizes my 200GB HDDs.

Warning: If you enable 48-bit LBA ATAPI support, but your system does not meet the minimum requirements (48-bit LBA-compatible BIOS and HDD that has a capacity of greater than 128GB), you may need to read the warnings in Microsoft Knowledge Base.
